Whattup, job seekers! We know it’s the Thursday before a long weekend (for our American subscribers, sry to everyone else), and you’re already more checked out than a politician who can’t run for reelection.

So we’re gonna keep things simple today and peruse the news section together. What’s really going on in the job market right now? Let’s find out.

Here’s what we found:

  • US hiring slowed down sharply over the summer as Trump’s chaotic trade agenda caused concerns over economic stability. Layoff numbers and the unemployment rate are both up across the country.

  • However, two industries are experiencing growth right now: healthcare and social assistance.

  • A few years ago, we learned about “quiet quitting.” Now we’re learning about what comes before that: “quiet cracking.” It’s a new rendition of burnout that’s directly linked to the hiring slowdown.

  • Another recent phenomenon, The Great Resignation, has been replaced by The Big Stay. Since fewer employers are hiring, more people are choosing to stay at their current jobs.

Well, that was…bleak, to say the least. But hey, we’ve got each other, and that’s all that matters, right?

(just kidding, we love you but we also gotta put food on the table.)

Win of the Week:

Medical supply company Henry Schein, Inc. is helping kids around the world get back to school. For the 28th year, team members packed hundreds of backpacks with school supplies and gift cards for back-to-school clothes. In almost three decades, this program has benefitted more than 75,000 kids.

Bummer of the Week:

In another move against wind power, Trump halted construction on a nearly complete wind farm in Rhode Island, putting thousands of jobs at risk. The project, which would’ve been finished next year, was estimated to provide enough energy to power 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut.
