5 Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season
The holiday season is upon us, Impact Jobbers, and it’s a season of giving, insane overconsumption. To combat overconsumption and refocus on what this time of year should really be about, we thought we’d share some fun ways to give back during the holidays.
We know, we know, we’re probably singing to the choir. After all, you’re an impact jobber who’s already working to make the world a better place in your regular old job (or you’re looking for an Impact job so you can. In which case…scroll down babes).
We promise these ideas are fresh and likely very different from what you do for your job. They might even, dare we say, bring you joy and make your heart grow three sizes?
Here’s how you can spread Christmas cheer for all to hear:
Check in with your neighbors and friends. It’s easy to forget that this can be an extremely lonely time of year for those who don’t have someone to celebrate with. Call your friends or knock on your neighbor’s door. Spend some time with them or invite them to a holiday celebration. And if you’re the one feeling lonely, reach out to friends for support.
Pay off some medical debt. The holidays are an expensive time of year, and it’s even more stressful for people dealing with medical debt (which is a ton of people in the US). You can erase medical debt for people for pennies on the dollar by donating to Undue Medical Debt.
Adopt a rescue pet. Let’s face it, this one is more like a gift to yourself than a way to give back. If you’ve been wishing for a puppy or kitten under your tree this year, consider adopting one from a rescue shelter. If you aren’t ready to commit, you can foster a pet over the holidays!
Support a foster family. If you know any great foster parents, you know how hard they work to give their foster kids a great home, and the holidays could be an intense time. Ask them how you can help out right now—maybe they’d love a home-cooked meal or could use help buying gifts. If you don’t know a foster family, you can still serve local children through CarePortal.
Shop secondhand. Be a conscious gift-giver and shop for one-of-a-kind gifts on the secondhand market this year. You could find some sweet vintage clothing, home decor, records, and other unique items for the people you love. Mother Nature will thank you for it too!
If giving back makes you feel awesome, why keep it to the holidays? SEED SPOT is looking for experienced entrepreneurs to volunteer for a mentorship opportunity in January - check it out here!
And if you’re hoping for an Impact Job for Christmas, scroll down to apply now.

Win of the Week:
Mercedez-Benz hosted their third “Holidays With Love” party to give back to students in Atlanta. The company partnered with Safe Kids Worldwide to host the party, where they provided fun holiday games, taught kids winter safety tips, and provided gifts.
Bummer of the Week:
Coca-Cola made a lot of sustainability promises that it can’t keep. The company is one of the world’s biggest plastic polluters, and it just drastically downgraded its goals to reduce the use of plastic in its manufacturing process.
