Do You Keep Getting Ghosted?

It’s spooky season, and we’ve got some spookily upsetting news for you: the term ghosting no longer only applies to the dating world.

That’s right, you can now be ghosted in the job market, too. And here’s the kicker: there’s more than one way they do it!

Dang, this newsletter feels like such a downer, and we’re only three paragraphs in. Think of it like this: we’ve gotta go through the haunted house, but we promise there’s candy at the end. Without further ado, let’s dive into why companies are ghosting you.

The first way that companies can ghost you is by posting ghost job listings, aka jobs they never plan to fill. They do this for several reasons that benefit them, but we don’t care about that right now. The bottom line is that it sucks and wastes people’s time.

The other way they ghost you? They bring you in to interview, maybe even for several rounds, and never contact you again. In fact, 69% of HR pros say they “frequently close job searches and stop responding to candidates without notice.”

Cool cool cool. So what’s a job applicant like you to do? We’re gonna dive into this more over our next several newsletters (tell your friends!), but here’s a sneak peek:

  1. Tailor your job apps to help you stand out, and communicate your values extremely clearly

  2. Follow up follow up FOLLOW UP (we’ll tell you how)

  3. Ask for feedback after interviews

  4. Get smart about the jobs you apply for

  5. Let your skills, experience, and testimonials speak for you

  6. Protect your energy, babes

Bummer of the Week:
