The National Endowment For Democracy Wants Candidates Like You

This one goes out to the job-seekers with big aspirations of pounding the pavement in DC to make the world a better place. Ever dream of doing a West Wing-style walk-and-talk across the National Mall while arguing with a congressperson?

Okay, you might actually have to work for the President for that (or play someone who works for the President on TV), but we’ve got the next best thing.

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is hiring for multiple positions, and we think you’re the perfect candidate.

NED is an “independent, nonprofit foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world.” The org creates grants to support nongovernmental groups abroad that are working toward democratic goals.

As a bipartisan group, NED is committed to fostering the growth of political parties, trade unions, free markets and business organizations around the world, while also promoting human rights, independent media, and the rule of law.

NED was founded in 1983, and the org is led by Damon Wilson, a dude with a pretty impressive resume that includes serving as the Chief of Staff at the US Embassy in Baghdad. But let’s get to the important part here: the jobs.

Here’s what you came for:

All roles are partially based in DC. Sound like a perfect fit? Get at it! Otherwise, scroll down for more Impact Jobs.

Win of the Week:

In 2021, Washington State passed a law banning single-use polystyrene food containers (aka Styrofoam), and this week the law has finally been put into effect. Polystyrene is known as the “most damaging form of plastic in the environment” and takes 1000 years to break down.

Bummer of the Week:

On Monday, a Florida jury found banana brand Chiquita liable for financing the Colombian paramilitary group Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC). Before AUC disbanded in 2006, the U.S. declared it a terrorist organization. Chiquita has been ordered to pay $38.3 million to the families of victims of the far-right group.
