Is Project Management Right For You?
Howdy, Impact Jobbers! Today we’re diving deep into a role that you see all over the social impact job market: the beloved project manager.
Whether you want to work for a nonprofit, social enterprise, or a governmental agency, basically everyone needs a kicka$$ project manager. Why? Because they manage all the projects, duh!
Obviously there’s more to it than that, so if you’re clueless about what a project manager does or how to become one, keep reading.
Project managers oversee the execution of special projects, handling everything from planning, feasibility reports, scheduling, and more.
This role appeals to people who love to wear several hats. They see the big picture and get involved in the nitty-gritty details. Project managers are detail-oriented, problem-solvers, great at collaborating, excellent communicators, adaptable, and skilled at time management.
There are also some hard skills you need to have to succeed as a project manager, like knowing how to write a project brief, craft a project timeline, and create a budget.
Essentially, project managers need to have their sh!t together cause they keep everything running smoothly.
To become a project manager, there are a bunch of project management certifications you can look into. Additionally, you should continuously build your project management skills. Even if you don’t have the title yet, think about the skills from your current role that are transferrable to project management.
