How to Simplify the Application Process Without Sacrificing Quality

Whattup, job seekers! ICYMI, we’ve been chatting AI for the last few weeks. Specifically, when you should and definitely shouldn’t use it in the job application process.

We may not be the biggest fans of AI-written cover letters, but that doesn’t mean we don’t believe in simplifying the job application process.

We’re back today to offer you a few strategies and tools that will help you apply more efficiently without sacrificing quality. Ready to work smarter?

First, a couple of helpful strategies to keep in mind:

  1. Customization ≠ starting from scratch with every single application. While mass applying without any effort is NOT the way to go, you can make things easier for yourself by creating a master resume and cover letter that’s easy to tailor to each new app.

  2. More applications are not always better. It may feel like a numbers game, but you should still focus on quality over quantity, especially if you have limited time. Quality works two ways here: the quality of your apps AND the quality of the roles you apply for.

  3. Time batch, biotch. Nothing will drain the life out of you more than feeling like you’re ALWAYS applying for jobs. Set aside a few hours to get after it, then log off and don’t think about the outcome.

  4. TRACK IT. Staying organized is the best way to keep the process simple. Keep up with where you’ve applied, where you plan to apply, and the responses.

A few tools to help you stay organized:

  1. A simple Google Sheet for tracking your progress

  2. A more complex system like Teal

  3. Project management platforms like Airtable, Notion, or Trello

Looking for a new job is tricky enough, so you should do whatever you need to make it easier. However, that’s not a free pass to turn in bad applications. Efficient and excellent can co-exist, besties.

Win of the Week:

Conservation groups, Indigenous communities, and landowners in Queensland, Australia are restoring coastal wetlands by removing old tidal gates and embankments that blocked salt water for decades. The return of tidal flow is already reviving native ecosystems by bringing back fish habitats, mangroves, and biodiversity while helping eliminate invasive grasses that once took over the area.

Bummer of the Week:

Sustainable fashion brand Everlane was acquired by fast-fashion giant Shein, sparking tons of criticism and disappointment from customers. The sale symbolizes how millennial-era ideals around ethical consumerism and sustainability are struggling against today’s demand for low prices and convenience.
