Whattup, job seekers! Last week, we took a walk on the wild side and talked about the ways you actually could use AI to benefit your job search.

But just in case you thought we’d been part of a Freaky Friday-style body swap with Sam Altman, don’t worry. We’re back to our regular programming this week to tell you all the reasons you SHOULDN’T use AI in your job apps.

And trust us, we’ve got a lot to say.

We pray this doesn’t need to be said, but just in case: do NOT use AI to write your cover letters, resumes, or other content for your job applications.

If you’ve been guilty of this in the past, we get it. Writing resumes and cover letters from scratch is one of the least enjoyable ways to spend your time. Plus, most people are allergic to talking about themselves and don’t know how to make themselves look good.

We understand the urge to use a free tool that can do it all for you in seconds. But here’s the thing…hirers can sniff out AI-written job apps in a few seconds, and they don’t like it. There are better ways to get resume and cover letter help, which we’ll share more about soon.

Another reason to keep AI out of your job apps is that the bots are often inaccurate. They’re known for exaggerating skills, fudging experience, and flat-out making stuff up. Don’t let it make a liar out of you!

Don’t let it turn you into a cheater, either. Using AI to help you with real-time assessments or interviews is a big no-no. You’re better than that, boo.

Bummer of the Week:

After a year of “low hire, low fire” trends, hiring picked back up in March, and we may be see a stabilization take place. However, experts warn that we haven’t seen the negative “spillover” effects of the Iran war on the job market yet, and forecast that it could delay a significant bounce back.
