When should you actually use AI for job apps, and when should you skip it?

“Great question—because the real advantage of AI in a job search isn’t outsourcing your voice, it’s sharpening your strategy.” -ChatGPT

If you’re into using AI ethically to help make the job search and application process more efficient and focused, we’ve got you.

Here are some ideas for when you SHOULD use AI:

AI is pretty decent at identifying patterns. If you’re ready to make a career pivot but aren’t sure what the next step is, tell an AI chatbot about your work history, what you liked about each role, and what you didn’t. It can suggest new positions or fields that you may not have thought of yet.

From there, you can strategize your next moves with AI. Send it the jobs you plan to apply for and ask it to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses for each role. This could lead you to add a certification, take a course to brush up on some needed skills, or reframe your previous experience to fit a new role.

Finally, AI can help you prepare for job interviews by asking common interview questions. If you send it the job post, it’ll do its best to personalize the questions to the role. However, keep in mind that you can’t perfectly predict the types of questions you’re going to be asked, and the goal isn’t to memorize a bunch of cookie-cutter answers. Use AI as a starting point to get your juices flowing and boost your confidence, not as a script writer.

Boston Climate Week, the city’s largest climate action week, kicks off on May 3. The event is part of the worldwide Climate Week movement that aims to bring together corporate sustainability leaders to discuss how businesses can address climate change and manage environmental risks.

Bummer of the Week:

Workers at the first unionized Apple store in Towson, Maryland have filed an unfair labor practice complaint, alleging the company discriminated against them after announcing the store’s closure. The union claims employees were denied transfer opportunities offered to workers at non-union stores, calling it retaliation.
