2025 Resume Trends You Need to Know About

Whattup, job seekers! There’s no better feeling than spring cleaning that resume, are we right?

Just us?

Well, regardless of how you feel about it, it’s time to give the ole resume a spruce before you hit the pavement again. We’re currently in one of the best times of the year for hiring, so it’d be a big mistake to send an outdated resume to your potential employers.

Luckily for you, we’re abreast (lol) of all the new resume trends for 2025. Here’s what you gotta do to make that resume shine like the top of the Chrysler Building:

  1. Optimize it (but don’t overdo it): applying some keywords to your resume can help it stand out, especially with companies that use applicant tracking systems to filter through their submissions (which is basically everyone at this point). Add a few keywords that are relevant to the job you’re going for, especially in your experience and special skills section. But! Do.Not.Overdo.It. No one likes a keyword stuffer.

  2. Show off your hard skills: hirers are prioritizing your skills over your experience these days. If your hard skills match the job description, make sure you highlight them in a really clear way.

  3. But don’t forget your soft skills: recent data also shows that soft skills are becoming increasingly valuable, so you should show those babies off too. According to this Future of Jobs report, the most prioritized soft skills right now are creative thinking, analytical thinking, curiosity, and resilience.

  4. Don’t Overuse AI: there are awesome AI tools that can make resume creation simpler and faster, but most employers view AI-generated resumes as a red flag. Instead of making the robots do all the work for you, use AI to improve an existing resume or give you ideas that you can make your own.

  5. Think outside the resume: if an employer is into you, they’re gonna check you out online. Make sure you have a clean digital footprint before you start blasting off applications. Your website, portfolio, and LinkedIn page are basically extensions of your resume, and they can all work together to land you the interview.

There you have it folks! Now get out of here and go spruce up that resume. Or, if your resume is already looking sharp, scroll down to apply for the latest Impact Jobs.
