You might be burnt out. Bad news: no amount of Epsom salt baths will cure this ailment.
But here’s some sort of good news: experiencing career burnout is not a personal failure. Let’s get into it.

First, let’s define career burnout. You might be experiencing it if you’re dealing with these symptoms:
You’re always exhausted, no matter how much you rest
You feel inadequate, ineffective, and like you’re never doing enough
Elevated stress responses, like a racing heart or shallow breathing
You’re withdrawing from social activities, at work, and in your personal life
You don’t feel pride or satisfaction in your work
There are tons of other symptoms of burnout, but the thing to remember is that it’s not the same as laziness or lack of ambition.
The other thing to remember is that it’s not your fault. Burnout is almost always a systemic issue propped up by unrealistic expectations, blurred boundaries, and workplace cultures that reward self-sacrifice.

For the next few weeks, we’re diving into burnout in the social impact industry. You’ll learn how to use your symptoms as a source of information and what to do next.
If your job is the source of all your stress, it might be time for a change. Scroll down to apply for the latest and greatest Impact Jobs.
