Mini Health Goals For People Who Work Too Hard

The Office Kevin GIF

Whattup, job seekers! We hate to jump on the whole NYE resolutions bandwagon, so we promise we’re not gonna do that.

Okay, we’re gonna do it a little bit.

It’s January, after all, the time when people take stock of their personal health. But there’s an ironic thing that happens to people who work in social impact: they’re so busy taking care of everyone else that they don’t take care of themselves.

We’re not here to tell you how to live. In fact, we have completely selfish motivations. We need you to last a long time in this industry, and that won’t happen if you burn your health to the ground.

So instead of a sweeping list of goals to overhaul your entire life, allow us to offer you a few mini health resolutions that will move the needle in the right direction.

Here’s what we’re thinking:

  1. For the love of goodness, stop skipping meals. We don’t care what you eat, but eat something. Resolution: keep more nourishing snacks around that you can grab when the workday gets busy.

  2. Take more pauses. Your nervous system needs to recover from the grind. Resolution: add 1-2 “exercise snacks” during the day - just a few minutes of walking, light stretching, or breathwork.

  3. Set one boundary that supports your health. Whether that’s a weekly therapy appointment, meal prepping on Sundays, or going for a daily walk, keep at least one thing sacred from work. Resolution: block off this time on your calendar as unavailable.

We could list a billion more mini health resolutions, but hopefully, these ideas get the ball rolling for you. The key is to take care of yourself at least a fraction as much as you care for others.

Win of the Week:

Efforts to protect endangered species on Australia’s Kangaroo Island are paying off. After devastating wildfires in 2020 that left several animals unprotected from predators, a border fence was installed around the island. The success of the fence has sparked optimism among wildlife conservationists.

Bummer of the Week:

A new report shows that 2025 was the deadliest year for Ukrainians since Russia’s invasion in 2022, up roughly 31% from 2024. The sharp rise in casualties was driven by intensified hostilities and expanded use of long-range weapons across Ukraine, affecting people even far from the front lines.
